Costs
The NYU Core Facility provides screeners with library plates containing siRNAs that we have purchased, dsRNAs that we have generated in-house, and dsRNAs that we have obtained as part of our collaboration with the DRSC. Users will also have access to our assay instrumentation, and the staff may provide advice on assay development, optimization, and data/image analysis throughout the screening process.
The total cost of on-site screening is the sum of the screening fee, cost of assay consumables and reagents, cost of stay in New York, and cost of hitpicks. Information about each component is listed below.

Because we purchase consumables and some reagents at a discount, we will track and bill screeners for what has been used during the course of their screen. Consumables and reagents provided by the facility will be billed with ~12.5% surcharge. Reagents such as cells, media, transfection reagents, and antibodies are the responsibility of the screener and should be sent to the NYU RNAi Core Facility for their screen. Depending on the type of screen, the cost of consumables and reagents can range from $3000-12,000. Please remember that this cost is in addition to the screening fee.
Cost of hitpicks (Variable)
- Human whole genome : 100 genes free (3 siRNAs/gene); then $5/gene for Silencer Select
- Human pre-miR and anti-miR : $5/miR and anti-miR set
- Mouse whole genome : 100 genes free (3 siRNAs/gene); then $5/gene
- Drosophila whole genome : $4/dilute PCR (including validation amplicons)
- Drosophila sublibrary : $4/dilute PCR (including validation amplicons)
Staying in New York (Variable)
This will depend on the type of housing and the length of your visit. Please keep in mind that genome-wide screening is estimated to take 4 to 10 weeks, depending on the type of screen.
